Strong winds in Miri
Strong winds had caused devastating damages to many roofings, building structures and uprooting trees yesterday afternoon and this morning at various locations in Miri. It was fortunate that there have been no report of injuries so far except damages to buildings and vehicles damaged by falling trees, said Mayor Miri, Adam Yii.
“On behalf of Miri City Council, I expressed my upmost regrets and sympathy to all the people affected. I have instructed Miri City Council to urgently repair all the damages to Council’s properties as soon as possible.
And I have also instruct landscape division to trim the trees so as to reduce the risks of them toppling over by strong winds,” he added.
Adam said from these devastation by strong winds yesterday and this morning, Council will review the necessary building structures like roofing, awning etc, and landscaping requirements in order to avoid similar incidents in the future. Miri City Council will always place public safety as the most important criterion.
He assured that the Miri City Council will work closely with the State Disaster Committee to deal with the aftermath.
