SUPP to field six new faces in upcoming general election
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) will field six new faces in the upcoming general election, said Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian stated this yesterday when prompted on the possibility of the party fielding new faces for the general election.
In the last general election, he said the party lost heavily, six of the seven contested.
Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Local Government and Housing, was met at a Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration at Padawan district police headquarters in Siburan and added that SUPP wants the ‘best-of-the-best’ candidates even though there was already a shortlist of initial candidates.
He emphasised that the final decision regarding the party’s candidates for the general election is in the hands of the top Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership.
On whether SUPP’s current state assemblymen (ADUNs) will be considered to stand for parliament, Dr Sim said it was unlikely for any of the party’s ADUNs to be nominated, including himself as there are many capable individuals out there, both men and women, and we strongly hope they will come forward if they want to serve the people.
He added that the party has been working hard to face the general election since the last state election.
At the Aidiladha gathering, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Amer Awal presented packets of meat to police personnel and other recipients.
