Sept 4 a public holiday for achievement in Sea Games
The state government has also declared Monday – Sept 4 – a public holiday.
A press statement from the Chief Minister’s Office yesterday stated that the public holiday is in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s announcement during the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games closing ceremony on Wednesday.
Najib had said the special public holiday is in appreciation of the outstanding achievements of the Malaysian contingent during the SEA Games.
He added the public holiday was also to acknowledge the sacrifices of the athletes and all parties involved in achieving the tremendous results, as well as the unwavering support of Malaysians of all races for the national team.
Malaysia emerged overall champions after winning 145 gold, 92 silver and 86 bronze.
