Piasau Camp Nature Park
TYT Pehin Sri Datuk Patinggi Abdul Taib Mahmud and Chief Minister, Tan Sri Adenan Satem were in Miri to officiate a ground breaking ceremony to launch the Piasau Camp Nature Park tomorrow.
SUPP President Tan Sri Peter Chin was at the airport with head of government departments, community leaders and Miri residents to welcome the VVIP tonight.
Piasau Camp, a nature reserve park was gazetted on April 3 this year after Shell surrendered it back to the State last year.
One million hectares out of the 12 million hectares of the whole area have been set aside as nature reserves, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries of which it is home to Oriental Pied Hornbills and rich in flora and fauna with a number of species of frogs and birds.
SUPP Publicity Chairman, Dato’ Sebastian Ting who is Chairman of Piasau Camp Miri Nature Park Society (PCMNPS), and his committee must be credited for fighting hard for the park to be gazetted for Miri residents.
Working tirelessly, Ting and his team would organise monthly walks themed, “A walk in the Park” for Miri residents to show them the love and protection of nature is an important part to one’s life. He believed that it is important for Miri residents to have a green lung in Piasau. He was thankful with the Chairman of Malaysian Nature Society, Miri Branch, Musa for assisting them to rally to turn Piasau Camp into a people’s park.
