Dato Sebastian on the passing on of former Party President Tan Sri Dr. Wong Soon Kai
1. It is with a very heavy heart for me to hear that our former Party President Tan Sri Dr. Wong Soon Kai who served from 1991 to 1996 has passed away at the age of 90 years old. He had contributed so much to the Party and most importantly to bumi kenyalang, Sarawak. In recognizing his capability as a leader, he was appointed as Deputy Chief Minister for 2 years, from 1994 to 1996.
2. He was a great mentor to many of the current Party leaders and a true statesman to his fellow countrymen. Even before he entered into politics, he had contributed so much as a government doctor, in fact he was the first Sarawakian to graduate as a surgeon from Britain. He had never stop giving all his energy to serve the people and for the betterment of Sarawak whether as a doctor or politician. Today is a great loss to Sarawak and may his soul rest in peace.
3. On behalf of the Party, I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to Puan Sri Dr. Jane Yong, her children and grandchildren.
4. I have also asked the party headquarters and branches to fly the party flag half mast until after the funeral.
