Dr Sim: good culture must continue for the younger generation
Local government minister, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian said Kuching Simpang Tiga Area committee Association has imposed a good tradition of respecting the elders.
Dr. Sim who was officiating the Association Chinese New year gathering cum the Association’s anniversary dinner recently said good culture must continue and it is a good example for the younger generation.
He said in the Malay culture, the youngsters kissed the hand of the elders as a respect. “It is the duty of the parents to teach the youngsters to respect the elders,” he said citing that some children do not greet elderly when meeting them.
Dr Sim also praised the Association for their ability to forge better relationship among their members. He said with unity, a lot can be done. The Chinese community, he added, should also be united. With unity, we can achieve a lot of things, he said.
Saying that the new Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari bin Abang Openg has continue the good work of the late Chief Minister, Dr. Sim said all the Chinese should rally and throw their support to the new Chief Minister.
On the political front, Opposition said I should go to see blocked drains, roads and other infrastructures, Dr. Sim said it was ridiculous that he should be stationed to do all those. “I have a team to assist me there and I have 26 councils under my Ministry. If I were to go to see all the drains in Sarawak, what time do I have to do the policies matter,” he lamented.
Dr. Sim also pointed out that the Opposition has been talking about Chinese education all the time but with the SUPP’s involvement into the matter, fund has been coming in for the Chinese schools. They (opposition) have been talking all these years but nothing gets done.
He said a lot of Bumiputeras also benefited from the Chinese schools and in some rural areas, there were more Bumi in Chinese schools. “We must give a helping hand to these bumi students,” he added.
