Press release by Wilfred Yap

The recent statement by DAP YB Violet Yong challenging Sarawak Barisan Nasional Component parties to leave Barisan Nasional over PAS’ proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 is very irresponsible for seeking cheap publicity.

This is because all the Sarawak based BN component parties have been consistent in opposing the syariah amendment bill.

The Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Tan Sri Adenan Satem have clearly stated “We will not support the so-called hudud bill. We are a multi-racial country. Muslims only constitute 25% of Sarawak’s population. We are not Kelantan. On principle, we are against the hudud bill.”

The Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Tan Sri Adenan Satem have also instructed all Sarawak BN MPs to vote against thesyariah amendment bill.

Instead of raising irrelevant matters to provoke the public, Sarawak DAP MPs and ADUN YBs should focus on cleaning house. Sarawak DAP should be held accountable and responsible to demand an answer from their political masters in West Malaysia on why DAP is still together co-operating with PAS by being part of the PKR led Selangor Government.

Sarawak DAP MPs and ADUN YBs should also focus less on rhetoric/irrelevant matters and more on serving the constituencies that they represent by solving the numerous local community problems and issues and bringing tangible benefits through securing development funding to solve the numerous infrastructure problems currently faced by the voters in the areas they represent to justify the huge salaries and allowances they are currently receiving.
