SPCB assisted in application of adoption of a child
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau was recently approached by a father requesting for advice and assistance as his name was not registered as the father of his child in the child’s birth certificate.
The child is already nine (9) years old. The Indonesian mother of the child have now abandoned the father and the child and gone back to Indonesia. The individual’s problem arose as there is no valid marriage certificate between the individual/father and the Indonesian women.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap assisted him to apply and obtain an Order of Guardianship of his child from the High Court. With the court Order, SPCB proceeded to assist him to apply to the District Office for the legal adoption of the child under his care and assisted him to register the certificate of adoption at National Registration Department. Thereafter, SPCB assisted him to apply for citizenship for his child.
The predicament that the father is facing is quite common and SUPP Public Complaints Bureau have received numerous requests for assistance on this kind of problem. To prevent problem like the above from occurring, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau would like to advice the public that it is very important for couples (where the prospective wife is a foreigner) to register their marriage to ensure that their children are born as a citizen of Malaysia.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau would like to notify the public that SPCB is not the approving authority and merely advice and assists the public in the proper and correct procedures involved in their application for citizenship status.
