Maintaining peace and religious harmony in Sarawak
SUPP Publicity Chief, Dato’ Sebastian Ting praised Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Adenan Satem’s stand against disallowing extremist religious bigots to enter Sarawak to disrupt the peace and religious harmony that Sarawakians have been enjoying.
Ting said Sarawak is made up of over 28 ethnic groups of people who have no qualms about living together. He said this is the Spirit of Sarawak that all Sarawakians are proud of.
“Peace, Unity, racial and religious Harmony is of paramount important to us. We have been accepting and respecting each other’s cultures religious beliefs from time immemorial. This is something very special that belongs with pride to each and every one of Sarawak and something we should or must not allow outsiders to come and cut a wedge between us,” said Ting.
He said it was very timely move as there was claim by Peninsula based Malay radical group, Perkasa who stated that they had already made their roots in Sarawak
Ting said from what he learned, there was no such thing and it would be dangerous to allow a person like Datuk Ibrahim Ali who had linked with Perkasa to come into Sarawak to create racial disharmony. It had been reported that he had recently called for the Alkitab(Bibles) to be burned.
On a report that Ibrahim Ali was in Sarawak recently as claimed by certain quarters, Ting said that the Immigration Department confirmed that there was no record that Ibrahim Ali had set foot in Sarawak. Indeed a controversial person like Ibrahim Ali should or must not be allowed to enter into Sarawak. He can stay back in Peninsular Malaysia.
Adenan issued a press statement on March 21st warning that he would invoke the immigration power given to Sarawak by the Federal Constitution to prevent outsiders who are known to be religious bigots, communal racists and trouble makers from coming into our territory or to deport them if they are already in Sarawak.
Sarawak, he added, is a place where all races live in peace and harmony all these many years and there is no place for religious extremist.
