SPCB helping out with adoption process
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau was recently approached by an individual requesting for advice and assistance as his name was not registered as the father of his child in the child’s birth certificate.
The child is already five (5) years old. The Indonesian mother of the child have now abandoned them and returned to Indonesia.
The individual’s problem arose as there is no valid marriage certificate between the individual/father and the Indonesian women.
The anxious father decided to seek help and advice from SUPP Public Complaints Bureau after reading in the media about the Bureau assisting the public on all type of problems.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau have now successfully assisted him in applying to the High Court for an Order that he is made a legal guardian of the child under his care since birth.
With the High Court Order of appointment as guardian, the father can apply to the District Office for the legal adoption of the child under his care, after which he can then proceed to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara to register the Certificate of Adoption and subsequently to apply for citizenship and an identity card for the child.
The predicament that the individual is facing is quite common and SUPP Public Complaints Bureau have received numerous requests for assistance on this kind of problem. To prevent problem like the above from occurring, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau would like to advice the public that it is very important for couples (where the prospective wife is a foreigner) to register their marriage to ensure that their children are born as a citizen of Malaysia.
