Dr Sim urged members to stay united
Minister of Local Government, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian called to members to stay united and fight the enemies outside.
Speaking at the 57th anniversary of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) at the headquarters, Dr. Sim who is also the President of the party said the members should not fear of regional control.
He called to members not to feel that they are neglected as they came from a certain place. “There is no such thing as Kuching is controlling Sibu and Miri or that there are too many YBs in Sibu division and we should watch out for them to take control. In SUPP, we are a family and I want to stop this division of territory control,” he said.
Saying that it was unity which helped them win this election, Dr. Sim reminded his members that there were only two of them, Datuk Lee Kim Shim(Sendadin) and Datuk Francis Harden (Simanggang) before the election. But due to their unity, they could grab back another five more seats.
“Nothing can hit us if we are united as a force. And today, we must continue to campaign on and not to slack as the general election is about a year away. We must gain back everything we lost in the past,” he said.
Dr. Sim also said the party must change to suit with the changing time. Thus, he said, the youth plays an important role towards this change. Asking them to change tactics if certain things does not work, he explained that should they kept on doing what was done in the last few years during the election, they would have lost all the seats.
Thanking the older cardres for having faith in them and leaving them to deal with the party, Dr. Sim said it was their trust that go them to change. At the moment, he said there were still a lot of petty talks about the party.
My advice, he added, is to ignore these talks. Let others said whatever they want as I know they are jealous of our party moving.
The dinner was held at the SUPP headquarters as Dr. Sim pointed out that he wants to give the members a sense of belonging and be proud of their party.
Earlier on, in his speech, Secretary General, Dato’ Sebastian Ting said he was thankful that the party has remained united during the crucial time. He said it was due to the unity that got the people to have confidence in them.
He added that besides being united, going to the ground is the most effective way to win an election.
Many people, he said, has write us off thinking the party will lost all, but we prove them wrong.
A total of about 700 members from 21 branches turned up at the Sa’ati hall at the SUPP headquarters where dinner was held.
