砂拉越地方政府部长兼人联党主席拿督沈桂贤直批，2017年财政预算案，对砂拉越而言没有太大惊喜。 他认为，这份预算案没有提供为砂拉越为中心点的足够的预算案，以促进砂拉越的社会经济发展，因为砂拉越与西马半岛相比发展过程中被抛在后面。 沈桂贤是针对2017年财政预算案发表看法时如是指出。 尽管如此，他很欣慰看到2017年财政预算案是一份以市场为本的预算案，政府正采取必要的措施，预留一系列必需的预算，如运用在路灯，道路维修，水供和电力供应方面提供一系列资助。政府制订计划以及增加人民可支配收入的方案。 “我们特别感到高兴的是，政府一直努力帮助我们的年轻一代，其中通过今天宣布的一马房屋计划的新激励措施。” 他称，可是相对的，这份预算再次表明，砂拉越必须与其他12个州之间，更应该获得更好宣布及对待。 他表示，这就是人联党认为砂拉越的宪法地位作为马来西亚联邦的3个创始国伙伴之一，更需要恢复邦明确地位之因素。 他说，财政预算案宣布有新的摩托天桥，但砂拉越却仍在等待上一个财政预算案宣布在古晋落实的新摩托天桥。 他称，砂拉越的国内航班和国际航班对砂拉越社会经济发展和旅游业至关重要。但在2017年预算案中没有被提到和关注。
