Peter Pau Kui Sung aged 44 was announced as the candidate for Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) yesterday by President of the party, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
The Kuching branch had put up three names before,Peter Pau, Peter Pui and Goh Leng Yew.
Dr. Sim described Pau as a very down to earth ordinary person who is a electrical engineer. He has a degree in electrical and Electronic engineering and an MBA in human resources management.
Pau, a father of three who is Kuching branch Publicity secretary was originally from Sibuand, came to Kuching in 1976.
He joined SUPP since 2009 and according to Dr. Sim had been active in Padungan for the last one year.
Dr. Sim said there is no other person who is more suitable than Pau as he is an ordinary man who also struggles with daily life issues.
SUPP, he said has a mixture of mostly young people and that was what we planned in our transformation plan. Pau, he said would be able to go to the ground and related to the people.
Pau thanked Dr. Sim for nominating him and said he would do his best in Padungan.
Admitting that Padungan is considered a ‘black’ area, Pau said he had been to the ground with a team to do services for the people. Although most of the padungan business people do not vote in Padungan, Pau said in SUPP, they had service centres everywhere and he welcomes people to contact him for assistance. He added that he is ready to assist anyone even those not voting in his area.
Earlier Dr. Sim called to the people to give a chance to SUPP. He said the Chief Minister had wanted a Chinese team to be with the government to be inclusive. Pointing out that the Opposition can only make noise, Dr. Sim said without the Chinese inside the DUN, they would be neglected.
“We have to be part of the system to get things done and to gain back our autonomy,” he added.
