Malaysia Longest Lantern Parade

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Pending Branch Women Section together with Jabatan Hal Ehwal Khas (JASA) Negeri Sarawak, and Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK) Chawan are organizing a lantern walk in attempt to achieve the national record of the Longest Lantern Parade.

The event will be verified and recorded by the officers from Malaysia Book of Records to be submitted as the application for the Malaysia Longest Lantern Parade.

The main objective of the event is to foster unity through the participation of cultural event and to celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn festival with local community.

The organiser would like to call all communities from various races, religions and cultural to participate in the slowly diminishing cultural of carrying lantern in celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The lantern parade will be held on Friday October 9th starting at 7:30PM at Kenyalang Park, Kuching. The parade will start at Kenyalang Commercial Center.  The route of parade includes Jalan Chong Kiun Kong, Jalan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong, Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman, and Jalan Simpang Tiga; with the total length of 2.4KM. Participant who chooses to walk less can join the parade at any point along the route. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lanterns and wear traditional costume to show the diverse culture and race. Lantern and candle will be provided for the first 500 participants.

All participants of the parade will be given a certificate by the organizer, endorsed by Malaysia Book of Records.

Once again,  all Kuchingites from various race and religion are invited to participate in this event to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival the Sarawakians’ way.
