PRESS RELEASE BY THE PARTY CENTRAL SECRETARIAT FOLLOWING CENTRAL WORKING COMMITTEE MEETING ON 7th JANUARY, 2014

At the crucial Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting this evening, the following subject matters were discussed and decided, namely:
1) a. 2014 is the year that the Party is mandated by the Party’s Constitution and By-laws to conduct its Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC). As such the CWC had decided that a Party Elections Steering Committee and a Party Elections Working Committee be formed to draw up the relevant particulars relating to the up-coming Triennial Delegates Conference and to make appropriate recommendations to the next CWC Meeting for approval and implementation.
b. CWC has, however, directed that the TDC should be advanced from the usual date in December of the year when the TDC is to be held. This is in view of the fact that the TDC is the democratic process as mandated by the Party’s Constitution so that a new set of Branch and Central Leaders can be installed to lead the Party into the next State Elections which are scheduled to be held not later than the first quarter of 2016. By the same process, the so-called Party leadership crisis will be automatically resolved. Thus the CWC wants every active member to participate in the processes their Branch and Central leaders as mandated by the Party’s Constitution.
2. SUPP Central again would like to call on Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, the Minister for Local Government and Community Development, to carry out consultations with Barisan Nasional component parties as had been the practise of past years before making appointments for Councillors, Ketua Kaum and Ketua Masyarakat in the State by seeking the views of SUPP Party Central with regards to making such appointments. It is noted that despite previous letters and also press release by SUPP Party Central, such appointments were still being made without consultation and knowledge of the Party leaders concerned.
3. The CWC acknowledges it had received the recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee relating to the Show Cause Notice sent to Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and had discussed at length these recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee during this evening’s meeting. However, the CWC had decided not to announce any decision that the CWC had made in this regards via this Press Statement. Any decision made on the matter is privy between the member concerned and Party. It is appropriate for the member to be properly informed by way of a letter from the Party’s Secretariat before any announcement to the Press.
4. SUPP fully supports religious tolerance as enshrines in the country’s Constitution. No quarter should try to make use of whatever pretext to impose their will on others who may not be sharing their same religious beliefs or stance. Therefore, the recent actions by JAIS Selangor in raiding the premises of the Malaysian Bible Society and took away copies of the Bible therefrom is not justifiable and rightfully condemned by right thinking and peace loving Malaysians from both East and West Malaysia. SUPP would like to call for restraints from all quarters and to quickly initiate conciliatory talks, if not yet started, between both sides in order to defuse the tensions resulting from the incident.
