A total of RM500,000 for drainage upgrades

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap today handed over Letters of Award (LOAs) for two Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2026 projects worth a total of RM500,000 to improve drainage infrastructure and flood mitigation in the constituency.

The projects comprise the upgrading of drainage along part of Jalan Semaba (Phase 3), costing RM350,000 and undertaken by Syarikat Binaan Makmur Jaya, and drainage upgrading works at Lorong Stakan 3, costing RM150,000 and undertaken by MYHA Junior Enterprise.

The LOAs were handed over in the presence of officers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

Yap said the projects reflected the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to addressing infrastructure needs at the grassroots level, particularly drainage issues affecting residents’ safety, convenience and quality of life.

He said the allocation of funds was only one part of the government’s responsibility, adding that the success of a project should be measured by its quality, safety, durability and tangible benefits to the people.

“This is in line with the emphasis by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg that a project should not be deemed successful merely because it has been completed and its allocation fully spent.

“Every ringgit allocated is public money, and every project must therefore deliver value to the people. Completion alone is not enough. We must ensure proper supervision, quality workmanship, timely delivery and that the completed infrastructure genuinely solves the problem it was intended to address,” he said.

Yap said the drainage projects at Jalan Semaba and Lorong Stakan 3 were planned based on needs raised by residents and would help improve local drainage capacity and reduce water accumulation during heavy rainfall.

He added that development in Kota Sentosa would continue to be people-centred, in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“We will continue to identify pressing needs on the ground and channel resources towards projects that provide meaningful and lasting benefits to our communities,” he said.

Yap also stressed that the projects would be closely monitored throughout the planning, construction, completion and handover stages to ensure transparency, accountability, quality and value for money.
