Padawan joins WHO global network for age-friendly cities
The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has reaffirmed its commitment to developing a sustainable, inclusive and liveable community following its official membership in the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities (AFCC).
MPP Chairman Cr Tan Kai said MPP officially joined the network in February this year as part of efforts to prepare Sarawak for an ageing population by 2028.
“Here in Padawan, the age-friendly approach reflects MPP’s commitment to its vision of building a sustainable, inclusive and liveable Padawan, where people of all ages are included and no one is left behind,” he said.
Tan Kai said the initiative was also in line with the Sarawak Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, particularly its Social Inclusivity pillar.
He said MPP welcomed a WHO delegation led by WHO Representative to Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Singapore, Dr Rabindra Abeyasinghe, today.
During the session, Abeyasinghe handed over the official letter confirming MPP’s membership in the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities to Tan Kai.
Tan Kai said the AFCC initiative represented MPP’s latest commitment to fostering a sustainable, inclusive and healthy community, building on its previous efforts under the Green City Action Plan and Child-Friendly Cities Initiative.
