Assisting the public applying Welfare Aid
The SUPP Youth and Women’s Wings are doing their best to make it easier for members of the public to apply aid from the Welfare Department.
Tan Kai, in a press conference with Woman’s Wing, Tnay Li Ping and his youth Secretary Wilfred, said in the past there were many who were unable to apply for welfare aid as they do not know the relevant procedures. He said there are also the language issue when they approach officials at the government department.
He said they realised the problem following response from the public during their walkabout during the campaigning period, during which they came across a number of people seeking their assistance.
So far in the past few months, they had helped about 20 applicants.
He said the SUPP Welfare Aid would be operating on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2 pm onwards. Registration will be on Mondays, and on Wednesdays and Fridays, they will assist the applicants to go to the department concerned.
Yap said the people tend to misunderstand that welfare aid is only given to a certain race. He said there is no such thing and that SUPP have been trying to help anyone in need of aid.
This afternoon, those who had been successfully given welfare aid turned up at the party centre to thank the party two wings.
