Sebastian Ting shares Father’s Day joy with the community
In conjunction with the Father’s Day celebration, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew led his service team early this morning to Miri Old Town and Unity Food Centre to distribute Father’s Day cakes to men and fathers present, as a gesture of appreciation for their selfless dedication and sacrifices for their families.
The community outreach programme was organised by the SUPP Piasau Branch. Accompanied by a strong service team comprising branch committee members, the Women’s Wing and Youth Wing, Ting personally greeted members of the public table by table and handed out the cakes, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.
Speaking at the event, Ting said that visiting communities during Mother’s Day and Father’s Day had become one of the branch’s annual community care initiatives to celebrate both occasions.
He said that while the cakes were a simple gift, they carried heartfelt appreciation and gratitude. Through this small but sincere gesture, he hoped fathers who work tirelessly for their families could feel valued by society and appreciated by their loved ones.
“Fathers are irreplaceable pillars of the family who shoulder the responsibilities of providing for the family, educating their children and caring for the household,” he said.
Ting praised fathers for their selfless sacrifices and unwavering support in guiding their children through life, describing them as the foundation of stable families and an important force in promoting a harmonious society.
He added that fathers are not only guides in their children’s lives but also key figures in passing down family values and a sense of responsibility. As children, he said, people should cherish every moment spent with their fathers and express their gratitude and respect whenever possible.
At the same time, Ting called on the younger generation to practise filial piety and gratitude throughout the year rather than only on special occasions. He encouraged people to appreciate every opportunity to spend quality time with their families.
He stressed that organising such community activities was not only a way of celebrating traditional festivals but also an effort to promote the importance of family values and to make love, care and warmth part of Miri’s community culture.
“Healthy and happy families are the foundation of a harmonious society. I hope the public will continue to uphold the fine values of respecting elders, caring for family members and preserving strong family ties, so that together we can build a more caring and compassionate society,” he said.
