Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting: RTP projects to improve safety and facilities in local communities
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said the government will continue to enhance infrastructure through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to ensure safer and better maintained community environments.
Speaking after a site visit this morning, Ting inspected two Muslim cemeteries at Sungai Baong and Kuala Baram Batu 1 to assess the progress of RTP 2026 projects. The Sungai Baong cemetery project carries an allocation of RM100,000, while the Kuala Baram Batu 1 project is allocated RM80,000, mainly involving upgrading and improvement works.
During his visit to Kuala Baram Batu 1, Ting highlighted two urgent priorities. The first is the construction of a caretaker’s house to store equipment and allow personnel to be stationed on site. He said residents had raised concerns over theft of stored items, making it necessary to improve security and management.
“The second priority is to upgrade electricity-related facilities, including repairs and basic electrical installations, to ensure smooth operations at the site,” he said.
Earlier, during his inspection at the Sungai Baong cemetery, Ting noted that a building estimated to be about 20 years old was in poor condition, with its structure severely damaged by termite infestation.
“The condition of the building is quite serious and requires repair or rebuilding,” he said, adding that lighting at the site is also inadequate, particularly in the early morning hours, posing safety concerns.
“According to feedback, there are people entering the area as early as 3am, but the lack of lighting creates safety risks. Improving the lighting system is therefore a priority,” he added.
Ting said engineering teams and relevant officers will conduct further assessments on site and propose appropriate solutions.
He stressed that these projects are among the key community development initiatives, and the government will continue to implement RTP projects to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for the people.
