Kota Sentosa assemblyman officiates language programmes at SMK DPHA Gapor
Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap today officiated the Programme for Strengthening Malay Language Proficiency PPBM 5.0 and Highly Immersive Programme HIP 2026 at SMK DPHA Gapor, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance students’ language mastery.
In his speech, he emphasised that Bahasa Melayu as the national language plays an important role in shaping national identity, unity and a shared sense of belonging. He said strong language proficiency is essential in developing confident, knowledgeable and competitive young Malaysians.
He noted that PPBM 5.0 is designed to strengthen students’ skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking, while also nurturing critical thinking and effective communication. At the same time, the implementation of HIP complements these efforts by enhancing English language proficiency through a more interactive and immersive approach.
“The combination of these two programmes reflects the school’s commitment to producing well rounded students who are proficient in Bahasa Melayu as the national language and English as an international language,” he said.
Yap also highlighted Sarawak’s continued commitment to ensuring inclusive and high quality education, where every student is given equal opportunities to succeed regardless of background.
He encouraged students to make full use of the opportunities provided and to regard language mastery as a key foundation for excellence in all fields.
