Wilfred Yap Hands Over RM380,000 UNIFOR Cheque to Kuching Tze Yin Buddhist Orthodox Association
State Assemblyman for Kota Sentosa, YB Wilfred Yap, today handed over a RM380,000 cheque under the Unit for Other Religions or UNIFOR to the Kuching Tze Yin Buddhist Orthodox Association, to support the upgrading of its temple facilities.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Wilfred Yap said the allocation reflects Sarawak’s long standing inclusive policies, where all religious communities are respected and supported for their role in promoting moral values, social cohesion, and community wellbeing.
He said Sarawak’s strength lies in its unity in diversity, and through UNIFOR, assistance is extended fairly and equitably to all faith communities.
Yap also highlighted that under the Sarawak Budget 2026, the state government continues to increase allocations through UNIFOR, with a total of RM120 million set aside to support religious institutions across Sarawak.
He said the funding enables upgrading works, maintenance, and community focused programmes, while the planned allocation for the coming year ensures continuity and sustainability, allowing religious bodies to plan ahead with confidence.
Established in 1978, the Kuching Tze Yin Buddhist Orthodox Association has played an important role in the local community through its Dharma propagation group, welfare group, recreational group, youth group, and women’s group. Since its founding, the association has remained committed to promoting the teachings of the Buddha, emphasising compassion, wisdom, and service to society.
The handover ceremony once again highlighted Sarawak’s unique model of governance, where inclusivity, mutual respect, and shared progress remain central to development policies for all Sarawakians.
