Wilfred Yap Hands Over RM130,000 UNIFOR Grant to BEM The Way Church
State Legislative Assemblyman for Kota Sentosa Wilfred Yap, today handed over a RM130,000 cheque under the Unit for Other Religions or UNIFOR to BEM The Way to support upgrading works at the church premises.
The cheque was received by Pastor Augustine Fung on behalf of the church during a handover ceremony held in Kota Sentosa.
The contribution is aimed at improving church facilities to ensure a safer, more comfortable and more conducive environment for worship, community activities and social outreach programmes that benefit the surrounding community.
In his speech, Yap stated the Sarawak Government’s commitment to religious freedom, inclusivity and mutual respect among all faiths.
He said UNIFOR reflects Sarawak’s strength in unity and diversity, adding that the allocation is not only for infrastructure improvement but also a recognition of the important role religious institutions play in fostering community cohesion, compassion and social responsibility.
He also stressed that the Sarawak Government, under the leadership of the Premier of Sarawak, remains committed to supporting places of worship of all faiths to ensure no community is left behind.
Representatives of BEM The Way expressed their appreciation for the support, noting that the funds will help upgrade essential facilities and enhance the church’s ability to serve its congregation and expand community focused activities.
