Community Knowledge Initiatives Foster Unity Among Sarawakians, Says Wilfred Yap
Sarawak continues to show that unity is nurtured through shared learning spaces and active community engagement, said Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman Wilfred Yap at the Program Sentuhan Komuniti Bestari organised by Perpustakaan D’Everglade Stutong Baru.
Speaking at the programme, Yap said Sarawak’s strength lies in its diversity and the strong sense of togetherness among Anak Sarawak, regardless of race, religion or background.
He said programmes that encourage children and families to read and learn together help build a solid foundation of unity and mutual respect within the community.
Yap noted that libraries today have evolved beyond their traditional role, becoming community centres that promote lifelong learning, digital literacy and social interaction.
He said community libraries play a vital role in shaping knowledgeable, open minded and resilient communities, while serving as spaces where shared values, understanding and unity can grow.
He commended the organisers and volunteers for their commitment in ensuring the success of the programme, saying such grassroots efforts reflect the true Sarawakian spirit of cooperation, inclusiveness and shared responsibility.
Yap stressed that Sarawakians must continue to protect and strengthen the harmony that defines the state, adding that diversity should be cherished and passed on to future generations.
He stated his support for initiatives that empower communities through education and knowledge sharing, noting that sustainable development must go hand in hand with strong social cohesion.
The Program Sentuhan Komuniti Bestari aims to cultivate a culture of learning, encourage community participation and strengthen unity among residents of Stutong Baru.
