Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian Thanks Agencies for Helping Storm-Affected Residents

A rare and powerful storm recently struck several parts of Desa Wira in Batu Kawa, causing significant damage to homes. Thanks to the swift response and continuous support from various agencies over the past few days, affected residents have now resumed their daily lives.

Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian expressed his gratitude to all involved, including the Civil Defence Force, the Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), and local community leaders, for their prompt assistance in helping residents through the ordeal.

“The Batu Kawa Service Centre, Padawan Municipal Council chairman Tan Kai, and Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Kristina Hii, were also on the ground immediately after the storm, working closely with local leaders. They visited the affected families, assessed the situation, and liaised directly with relevant authorities to ensure quick action, including clearing fallen trees and other clean-up efforts,” he said.

Dr Sim said he was relieved that despite the severity of the storm, there were no casualties reported.

“The weather has become increasingly unpredictable. We now experience extreme heat for days, followed by sudden and intense storms with unusually high rainfall and strong winds,” he added.

He said most of the homes that had their roofs blown off have since been repaired, allowing families to return home safely.

The Padawan Municipal Council has placed large rubbish bins in Desa Wira to help residents dispose of debris and waste resulting from the storm.
