Wilfred Yap Launches Drainage Upgrade to Tackle Flooding in Batu Tujuh
Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap addressed the long-standing drainage and flash flood issues in Batu TujuhConstruction where a letter of award was handed to a contractor today at Jalan Kuching Ranger Depo.
Yap said the project is scheduled to begin immediately and expected to be completed by mid-November this year depending on weather conditions.
The implementation of the “Menaiktaraf Perparitan” project was funded under his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2023 allocation.
Yap said the RM300,000 project will see the construction of reinforced concrete drains measuring 1.2 metres wide, between 1.2 to 1.5 metres deep, and stretching approximately 300 metres.
He said this drainage works are urgently needed to mitigate recurring flash floods that have long affected the area in front of the Kota Sentosa Library, Tadika Dewan Perniagaan Batu Tujuh, and the Seven Mile Community Association Hall as years of heavy rain have caused frequent overflows, disrupting daily activities, posing safety risks to motorists, and inconveniencing nearby residents.
He also believed that the project will addressed serious soil erosion along the roadside, which, if left unresolved, could threaten the stability and safety of the surrounding roads.
“I take every community’s complaint seriously and will continue working with JKR, community leaders and residents to resolve infrastructure issues effectively, ” he said.
He noted that the improved drainage will not only reduce flood risks but also protect road surfaces from further erosion and long-term damage.
Yap said the effort reflects the Sarawak GPS Government’s approach of prioritising real solutions over political rhetoric.
“As your elected representative, I remain open to hearing your concerns and committed to pursuing practical, sustainable improvements in Kota Sentosa. I encourage residents to stay engaged with my service centre so that no problem goes unnoticed,” he added.
