Tourism Minister, Datuk Sebastian Ting says the first Miri WAK a success

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting said that with the support of the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism and the Miri Municipal Council, the first Miri WAK Art and Culture Festival was successfully held at Coco Cabana in Miri, attracting about 40,000 participants.

The four-day event, held from August 1 to 4, is the first of its kind in Miri. The previous WAK about Kuching held in Kuching was very successful and will be held again in October this year.

Ting visited the Miri WAK Art and Culture Festival with Miri Mayor, Adam Yii recently.

Ting suggested introducing this concept to Miri and Sibu after seeing the success in Kuching.

“Although the event only lasted four days, feedback on the first day was very good, with good sales and footfall despite some light rain. Most of the participants in the event were between the ages of 16 and 35, and there were about 40 to 50 stalls demonstrating their creativity. The feedback I got from my visits was really good. Everyone said they’d like to come again, which is exactly what we wanted to hear, so it’s great” he said.

Ting added that this is not only a very successful tourism project where different races and cultures come together.
