Giving financial aid to temples
In the month of the Ghost festival, Deputy Premier, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian allocated funds to 18 temples for their activities.
Dr Sim said the funds allocated were for their welfare activities and during this month Ghost festival prayers and ceremonies. As there are more celebrations and ceremonies carried out this month, he said the temples do incur more expenses.
“Chinese attached great importance to temple worship activities, which require funds. Therefore, this allocation is to assist them to promote and unite the people through temple activities.”
Dr Sim explained that Government grants cannot be issued anyhow as there are certain procedures to follow thus at times, there are delays at times.
He added it will be better to apply before the activities and funds are automatically allocated twice a year. For construction, repair, and even reconstruction of temples and schools, Dr Sim said these require huge fundings thus applications must be made.
He added that Sarawak government treats the religious beliefs and education development of all ethnic groups fairly and they can seek assistances from them.
