Sarawak Tourism Minister courtesy call to Minister of Culture and Tourism China for Tourism agenda

Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak paid a courtesy call to Mr. Peng Yubin, Deputy Director General for the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Cultural and Tourism China at Ministry of Cultural and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China office.

He was accompanied by the Honourable Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister for Tourism Sarawak. Among those in his delegation were the heads of tourism agencies under the Ministry’s purview.The courtesy call was aimed at building tourism cooperation between Sarawak and China.

Subject matters discussed included Sara am as a Responsible Tourism Destination and how it leads in developing eco-tourism and as a growing business events hub in Southeast Asia. The discussion also included facilitating travel and visitor exchange, education, policy dialogue, and collaboration in tourism, arts, and culture. The Honourable Minister also informed them on the possibility of direct flight between Sarawak and China. Talks also dwelled on conducting joint tourism campaigns and participation in travel events.

The Deputy Director General of Ministry of Culture and Tourism China highlighted on important matters for China tourists which included security and safety. In order to develop mutual cooperation, China will prepare a Memorandum of Understanding in particilarly for tourism initiatives.

Sarawak welcomes such cooperation as it will benefits to stimulate economic growth.
