Deputy Premier, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian giving grants to all schools in Batu Kawah

SUPP ADUN Batu Kawah, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian gave away financial grants to 13 schools in Batu Kawa recently for their additional activities.

Dr Sim who is also Deputy Premier ADUN said he has been doing it since 2016 as he do not believe that school authorities have to go beginning financial aid for their activities.

He took the opportunity to visit 13 schools in Batu Kawa to understand their various issues from students declining numbers to facilities, man powers, etc, Dr Sim said unfortunately, the Government aided schools as a whole do not have good facilities as the SJKC (managed by the school board). He had forwarded a few of the request immediately to the office of Minister of Education.

The schools he visited were SK Garland, SK Arang, SK Rantau Panjang, SJKC Rantau Panjang, SJKC Sg Tapang Ulu, SRB Sg Moyan, SJKC Syn San Tu, SJKC Sejijak, SJKC Kim Choo Seng, SJKC Batu Kawa, SJKC Stapok, SJKC Sg Tapang MJC and SK RPR Batu Kawa.

Schools, he added are under Federal Government’s responsibility to fund them schools in Sarawak to the same facilities as those in West Malaysia.

In Sarawak alone, Dr Sim expressed his worries that there are almost 1,300 schools and is a chronic issues on funding by Ministry of Education Malaysia and so far this year, only 40% of the funding for activities had been given to the schools.

He expressed gladness that all Unity Government MPs had RM2 million for financial grants and RM2 million for projects that will help the GPS YB with RM2 million for financial grants and RM 5 million for projects.

He said together we can do more, faster but need all the MP to do their job to fight for a greater share of funding for the schools in Sarawak as well as to support Sarawak’s aspiration of Education Autonomy under MA63.
