Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang blasts PAS leader, Hadi Awang
Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang expressed his disappointment that a leader can spew nonsense, not once but often, as in the case of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang whose latest accusation cast non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras as being at the root of corruption.
Hadi also blamed Malay voters for being apathetic and for causing non-Malays and “liberals” to gain control of the country’s political power in the last general election.
Lo said he agreed with Parti Rakyat Sarawak vice-president Datuk Liwan Lagang who said Hadi should be barred permanently from entering Sarawak. We do not need such people in our State to split our races.
“As a religious leader and party leader, Hadi should have the wisdom and be humble of character to bring all races together instead of pitting them against one another. He should be seen to react positively for all races in Malaysia and not to instill hatred among us all. We are a multi racial country with different religions and diversifying culture. We should live together in harmony so that our country can grow further. During 2009, Hadi even insulted Dayaks by calling them ‘ignorant cawat’ who do not know how to vote. No one can forget the insults hurled at us Sarawakians, ” said Lo.
He added that Liwah is right to recommend to the Sarawak government that Hadi should be barred for life from entering Sarawak as we will not tolerate bigots who try to create chaos.
” Our Sarawak leader, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg understands and respects all religions and races in the state. In fact all our previous State leaders emphasised respect for all races and religion in Sarawak. Let me remind Hadi that MA 63 upholds and protects freedom of religion in Sarawak and Sabah and that MA 63 is now part and parcel of the federal constitution. Hadi should apologise to the people of Sarawak for such an irresponsible and blatant statement. Hadi should indeed take a leaf from Abang Jo on how to be a good leader where he ensures that no one race should suffer due to their race under him. This is why Sarawak is growing well and prosperous under our Premier. Sarawakians are known to cooperate together with respect for one another, celebrating each other’s festivals. We have set a good example to the rest of Malaysia and even the world to see how united we are. This is due to the good governance of our leaders,” Lo emphasised.
He agreed Corruption is evil and can destroy Malaysia’s economy but it is not restricted to only a certain race.” In fact, Sarawak under Abang Jo has made a lot of effort in curbing corruption and abuse of power in the public sector through the State Integrity and Ombudsman Unit,” he pointed out.
Lo said Hadi would do well to take a good look at his own state and see how he could help the people there who are suffering in poverty. He should spend time working to upgrade the lives of his people instead of wasting it to spew nonsense and create disharmony among different races.
