Heartiest congratulations to all the reappointed Councillors. Thanks for renewing your oath of office, a testimonial of your commitment, passions to serve the residents 24/7 despite such a poor remuneration of ~RM1,500 per month. Let’s make a difference to your city, my city, our city.

Local councils cover the whole of Sarawak is part of Sarawak autonomy in Malaysia. Though often called the 3rd tier of Government in Sarawak but is the most frontline service to the people.

Under CM Adenan and continue under Premier Abang Jo, there is substantial discount on the assessment rate for residential houses resulted in the amount collected accounted for 30-50% of municipal services (cutting grass, rubbish collection, electricity for street lighting, repairs of road & drains, maintenance of park..). The severe deficit is subsided by Sarawak Government grants (luckily Sarawak can afford).
