Wilfred Yap on traffic woes in Kota Sentosa

Despite being 16 years as state assemblyman for Sentosa, Wilfred Yap urged the Opposition to change their style of dealing with issues.

Speaking to the press after viewing the problems of traffic jams at the Mile 7, Yap who is the Sentosa State Assemblyman blasted at DAP chairman Sarawak, Chong Chieng Jen for failing to tackle the issues facing Sentosa people correctly.

Traffic jams, he said, is one of the issues faced by the public daily but instead of handling the issue correctly, he said DAP only knows how to hold press conferences and scolded the government.

“Being an ADUN member, you need to get down to the problem, frame the questions the people wants to know and do it the proper way by going to the DUN to speak it out and ask the Ministry concerned. It is not about hitting out at the government day in and out,” he added.

Yap reasoned that the traffic jam woes at Mile 7 is something that comes with development.

The Gabungnan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is trying to solve the issue here by constructing the overhead bridge and it was due to the incomplete project that caused the traffic jam, said Yap.

He said from what the contractor had said earlier on, the flyover at Mile 7 will be completed in April this year and by then, the traffic jam will be gone. He urged members of the public to bear with the sitation for a few more months.

Earlier on, Yap said part of the slowness of the project was due to the contractors who had to ensure carefullness in digging out the road. He pointed out that besides the underground electricity cables, the contractors has to ensure that they do not damage underground water pipes, telecomunication cables and other utilities thus the delay of the projects.
