SUPP Youth on the DAP

SUPP Youth Secretary General Wilfred Yap is very disappointed with the continuous and non-stop rhetoric of DAP Sarawak Chairman YB Chong Chieng Jen on cronyism, nepotism and corruption in the administration of the state government.

Using YB Chong’s own words that he has a ten inch thick document on the list of state lands being alienated to companies owned by family members of some PBB leaders in the past 15 years at less than one quarter of the market price and list of government contracts awarded to companies owned by family members of many PBB leaders in the past 15 years without going through the tender process, the public have yet to see a successful prosecution (if any) against the so called perpetrators of cronyism, nepotism and corruption. This is despite the fact that YB Chong has been a Member of Parliament of Kuching since 2004 and State Assemblyman for Kota Sentosa since 2006. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that DAP Sarawak is ineffective and merely all talk and no action.

DAP Sarawak, with so many YBs who are lawyers, should know that if one is to be charged with corruption, there must be evidence (and not merely hearsay) to prove beyond reasonable doubt to convict that person. In this connection, SUPP Youth strongly urge DAP Sarawak YBs to stop their rhetoric but instead spend their time and effort to gather proper admissible evidence to assist MACC in convicting the alleged perpetrators of cronyism, nepotism and corruption (if any) rather than repeating their rhetoric based on hearsay.

Unlike DAP Sarawak, SUPP Youth is aware and has zero tolerance on cronyism, nepotism and corruption. SUPP Youth also does not just talk about the issue but has continuously made their stand clear through their Secretary General Wilfred Yap of fully and whole heartedly supporting the proposal of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) through amendment of the Anti-Corruption Act to bar immediate family members and close associates of all Chief Ministers and Ministers from securing projects, contracts and tenders in their respective States and Ministry.

Instead of challenging PPB Youth to take up the challenge in ensuring that the administration of the state government is one that is clean, fair and of good governance, SUPP Youth challenges DAP Sarawak with so many Members of Parliament to move a Private Members Bill for the amendment of the Anti-Corruption Act to bar immediate family members and close associates of all Chief Ministers and Ministers in their respective states and Ministry.

It is a fact that transparency in Government is of utmost importance and often credited with invoking accountability and public confidence towards toward government. As such SUPP Youth strongly believe that the proposed amendment to the Anti-Corruption Act as suggested by MACC will definitely reduce government corruption and abuse of power.
