PH vows to cancel ART public transport if they win Sarawak Election?

It is with deep shock and regret that DAP Sarawak head, Chong Chieng Jen, has labeled the proposed Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) transit project in Kuching and vowed to cancel the project should Pakatan Harapan wins the Sarawak elections, said SUPP Party President, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said surely as the Member of Parliament of Stampin and the ADUN for Kota Sentosa which he is now running away from, he would know that traffic congestion in Kuching city is getting worse by the day as our population becomes bigger and more affluent.

“Does he not know that Kuching’s population and the number of vehicle registrations have been growing at 3% and 8% respectively per annum, resulting in the increase of traffic congestion in the city? Or that based on current growth trends for urban traffic in Kuching, the number of vehicles in this city is estimated to grow by 41% from 317,400 in 2015 to 449,200 in 2030, ‘ he asked.

Sim wondered why Chong believe that Penang under the DAP state government with a population of 270,000 in Georgetown is pushing very hard to have a RM8 billion LRT system, but Kuching with a population of 570,000 people does not deserve to have a cheaper and more modern ART system to ease traffic congestion and prepare for future growth?

“Are you anti-development and anti-Sarawak? Do you not believe that the people of Kuching and Sarawak deserves to have a modern and affordable public transportation system?I call on the voters in Kuching and Sarawak to vote for GPS, and reject DAP and PH if you believe that Kuching and Sarawak similarly deserves development, modern amenities and less traffic congested city roads, ” he said.

Dr Sim is facing three opponents this December 18 against DAP, PBK and Aspirasi in Batu Kawah constituency.
