Dr Sim Kui Hian giving out grant to a church
Local government and Housing Minister, Dato’ Seri Dr. Sim Kui Hian handed over Sarawak government Unit Hal Ehwal Agama-Agama (UNIFOR) grant to a church this afternoon.
Dr. Sim said millions have been handed over to churches, temples and religious associations in Sarawak for their buildings, maintenance and upgrading since 2017.
He is thankful that some of the temple expansion projects had started as the prices of imported building materials, especially steel had gone up by more than 30 percent due to the covid 19 pandemic.
He said it is important for Sarawak to have more revenue to be financially independent sooner. “It is good that our former Chief Minister, Tok Nan and now Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari had implemented revenue re-engineering with substantial increase in Sarawak revenue. We, Sarawak, need to work towards financial independence as the prosperity will allow Sarawak to make our own decisions, to share the prosperity among all races and religions in Sarawak. ,” he added.
Dr. Sim said in 2017 RM15 million was given to Unifor, RM 20 in 2018, RM 30 million in 2019, RM 50 million last year and so far this year, another RM50 million.
This shows, he added, the Sarawak government respects one another irrespective of race or religion. We have set an example to show the other states how close knit we are.
