Home quarantine patients need to stick to the SOP required

Due to many confirmed cases laterly, medical experts will ascertain positive cases suitable for home quarantine, said Minister of Local government and Housing, Dato’ Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian.

Dr. Sim said the home quarantine patient will be closely monitored and must strictly follow a set of Home Quarantine SOP.

Giving a detailed SOP, he said these include that one must be contactable at all times, no face-to-face direct contact, and monitor-and-report your own condition.

Among the advice given was for the patient to wear a mask patient and stay away from other people in your home.

“If sharing the bathroom, clean after each use with liquid bleach (1 part of bleach + 49 parts of water) whenever he/she has to leave the room, to prevent spread of infection. Do not share personal items, food and there should strictly have no visitor in the home, including friends and family, except for people providing essential items,” he said.

Dr. Sim said patients should also avoid sharing dishes, cups/glasses, towels, bedding, electronics.

Those quarantined at home should not go out to get food and medicine or exercise.

They can either order it online or by phone, or ask someone and leave it at the doorstep.

For covid symptoms, things to look out for are Category 1, no symptom, category 2, mild symptom, fvel, nasal congestion, sore throat, cough, lethargy, loss of smell or taste, vomiting, and diarrhoea, for category, there will be lung infection (pneumonia). om Category 4, the lung infection/pneumonia need oxygen support while for category 5, lung infection/pneumonia, multi organ failure, and need ventilator support.

Dr Sim added that as Delta variant is two to four times more transmissible and shorter time to spread within three to five days, new symptoms include runny nose, nasal congestion, prolonged headache, sore throat, muscle pain, diarrhea, vomiting and fatigue. Although it is not a list of full symptoms, patients should consult medical help if there are more severe concerns. Thus, he added, it is important to double mask if one needs to go out.
