Lo said it is most unfortunate that the incident occurred and authorities like the Public Works department (JKR) and Kuching Water Board (KWB) will go into a detailed investigation.
On the morning that it happened, Lo said he was informed by the Penghulu and he went down in the wee hours of the morning to check out the situation. He also called his council staff for help and together with the police, they put up signage to divert the road from the affected area.
Lo said there is road construction going on now and he hoped that big vehicles will avoid the area and use other roads to prevent traffic jams.
According to a statement from JKR, the collapse attributed to an increase in surface runoff was due to prolonged rainfall and probably water pipe leakage causing an approximate 40 m long section of the road to collapse.
JKR had also expressed their apology and condolence for the loss affected by the unfortunate incident.
Lo said at the moment, JKR has set up barriers, proper signages and required a traffic management plan to warn the public of the collapsed section while a temporary road diversion for access to Kuching/Bau town.
