Milton Foo supports MMA’s decision on selection of medical officers
Secretary-General of SUPP Youth Central, Milton Foo said SUPP Youth supported Malaysian Medical Association’s (MMA) statement that racial and religious prejudices should not be used to influence the selection or appointment of medical officers.
He said that talent should come in all races, religion, creeds, ethnicities and gender.
Foo said they applauded MMA’s role to be the integrated voice of the medical profession in Malaysia by upholding to their Hippocratic Oath of the profession.
SUPP Youth, he added, welcomed the Health Ministry’s clarification that the proposal made by Persatuan Perubatan Kesihatan Awam Malaysia and the Malaysian Islamic Doctors Association to prioritise Bumiputra medical graduates for permanent positions in the ministry is not the Ministry’s stand and reiterated that the Ministry had always appointed medical officers based on merit (but not race) and their academic performance.
“SUPP Youth shall continue to advocate and fight for health autonomy for Sarawak. We urge for devolution of administrative power in terms of medical and health autonomy to Sarawak Government by having our own Ministry of Health Sarawak ultimately (hence replacing Ministry of Health Malaysia in Sarawak) and forming our own Sarawak Medical Council, ” he said.
