Watch out for symptoms of rabies in pets, warns Dr. Sim

Sarawak Local government and Housing Minister, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian reminded dog owners to vaccinate their pets as the menace of rabies is still here.

Dr. Sim advised that rabies jab should be given annually and pet owners should not let their guards down.

He said while fighting COVID-19, let us remind each other on the importance of rabies prevention vaccinate your pets annually and to seek medical treatment immediately after an animal bite.

Dr. Sim said pet owners should pay attention to the symptoms of rabies in their dogs and alerted authorities immediately if so.

“We must continue to work together to eliminate rabies in Sarawak.

Sarawak rabies outbreak started in June 2017 in Serian when two sibling died after being bitten by neighbours puppies.

Until March 13 this year, 33 cases of rabies had been reported all over the state. Two young children survived whole 31 passed away.

Limbang was the only district declared rabies free until end of 2019. Last few, cases were reported there.
