Wilfred Yap looking at at the problem of the cracking culvert at Lorong 28, Stampin Resettlement Scheme
Residents staying at Lorong 28, Stampin Resettlement Scheme complained about the dilapidated condition of the culvert of the monsoon drain infront of the entrance of Lorong 28 as the side of the culvert facing the river is cracking open sideways as the reinforcement work previously carried out by the authorities does not appear to be effective.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) Chief Wilfred Yap and Kapitan Chai Yong Liang went to the site to see and he highlighted and brought up the matter to the attention of Kuching City South Council and Drainanage & Irrigation Department for their speedy action in rectifying the problem.
Yap said he will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that all the required works on the cracking road culvert are carried out and completed properly for the safety of road users in the vicinity. He has also written a letter to Kuching South City Council and Drainage & Irrigation Department requesting for scheduled periodic maintenance and clearing of the earth drains to alleviate water ponding and mitigate flash flooding.
As a long term solution, Yap who is also the Chairman for SUPP Kota Sentosa also appeal to the authorities concerned to conduct a study and formulate a comprehensive drainage system for Stampin Resettlement Scheme. It is hoped that with proper planning for the area, the authorities concerned can apply for development funds and/or prioritise and allocate the usage of the yearly development funding from the Government for the upgrading of all the existing dilapidated earth drains of Stampin Resettlement Scheme. The upgrading works can be done systematically in phases to keep up with the needs of the growing population.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau will continue to serve as the eyes and ears of our local community and will highlight and try to resolve issues or problems of public interest affecting the public. Anyone who come across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it can always call SUPP Public Complaint’s mobile number at 016-7797688 or 082-246999 or go direct to SUPP Head Office to request for assistance.
