Sebastian Ting hails media as frontliners who should be vaccinated early

As a people representative for Piasau, Piasau State Assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting believed that reporters especially correspondent or on-the-scene reporter that are always on-site covering story for the media, to be considered as frontliners just like the police, doctors and nurses for early vaccination.

Ting said whether it is an event, natural disaster, fire, road accident or government announcement, on-the-scene reporters are always there in front to record and give the most accurate news report to the people. They have the noble duty of keeping the people informed of things happening around the country and they are also risking their lives covering story at places associated with COVID-19 such as hospitals, EMCO areas and quarantine centres. At the same time, their job requires them move around a lot and meeting with many people which put them a high risk group just like the doctors and nurses.

“For on-the-scene reporters to continue their duty safely, I think it is only fair that they are prioritized for vaccination like other frontliners so that they are protected at all time while performing their duties.Lately, we are seeing an increasing COVID-19 case throughout Sarawak. This is indeed worrying as this will add more pressure to our medical frontliners and we do not want that to happen. Thus, as a Sarawakian, we must cooperate with our frontliners by following the SOPs diligently. Please continue to practice good basic hygiene by washing hand regularly with soap, wearing face mask, using hand sanitizer and practice social distancing. This reminder has been put forward by many health agencies and leaders but if we continue to ignore it, we will be fighting a losing battle, ” he added.
