Excavation works to be done at main river drainage to stop flash flood

Minister of Housing and Local Government Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is Batu Kawah assemblyman, called on several agencies to investigate and find solution to solve recent Batu Kawa flash flood issue.

Dr Sim, together with DID Sarawak director Datu Chok Moi Soon, Padawan Municipal Council secretary Elizabeth Loh, council engnineer Mohd Hazwan Othman and developer’s (Pine Square development Batu Kawa)representative Ir Kenny goes to Taman Desa Wira lorong 3 to assess the on-site situation today.

Developer agrees to continue excavate and clearing works at the main river drainage system of the surrounding area due to riverbank construction to ensure rain water can be flow out smoothly and the temporary bridge structure there will be removed once work completed in next few weeks.

As for the government agencies, DID Sarawak and Padawan Municipal Council representatives brief Dr Sim about the flash flood situation at the area, and JKR Sarawak director Datu Ir Zuraimi promised to look into the downstream flow obstruction of the Sg. Maong due to construction of new bridge at Kpg Sungai Maong.

Dr Sim fought for the $120 million Taman Desa Wira drainage upgrade and Batu Kawa flood mitigation approved by Sarawak CM Abang Johari for 2020 and continues under 12 Malaysia Plan by DID Sarawak.

The comprehensive flood mitigation plan apart from Taman Desa Wira to include 7 other zones – Batu Kawa lorong 1c & 3, Sg. Moyan, Sg. Surih, Field Force road, Ketitir road, RPR area and Kampong Sina Budi Baru.

For on-going Taman Desa Wira’s drainage upgrading works, Dr. Sim urges DID Sarawak to speed up and prioritise to have more drainage upgrade work in more Lorong.

Meanwhile to process and award to successful contractor of recently closed open tender for Lorong 17 & 17A of Taman Desa Wira as soon as possible.
