Sarawakians will complete covid 19 vaccination by August, says Dr Sim
Sarawak will work very closely with Ministry of Health Malaysia on rolling out the COVID19 vaccines next weekend, said Minister of Local Government and Housing Minister, Dato’Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
Dr. Sim said he understands that Pfizer vaccines will arrived from Belgium factory around February 25 (weekly air flight shipment till end of March) with Sarawak launching on February 27 at Stadium Perpaduam, Petra Jaya.
“We want to help Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sarawak (Federal agency) roll out as soon as possible, as fast as possible to as many people as possible. Our strategy is to leap from current Containment Phase to Vaccination Phase, bypassing the horrendous numbers of positive cases and deaths related to Mitigation Phase as seen in West Malaysia and Sabah, “he added.
In view of COVID19 to longhouses and our resources including the health care although, not as soon as West Malaysia, we want to speed up and complete all 3 phases of free vaccination for more than 2,019,413 Sarawakian by August 2021 rather than national Vaccination program of February 2022, he added.
Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has requested for all legal and illegal workers in Sarawak to be vaccinated to protect fellow Sarawakians.

In order to ensure smooth rolling out and time frame by August, Dr Sim pointed out that there is a need for access (get as many vaccines as possible), acceptance (need 70% of Sarawakian to be vaccinated to have herd immunity) and assistance (the biggest program with 2 million people, needs a lot of help, understanding, coordination, support, financial.)
His medical school classmates and fellow cardiologist colleagues in Singapore, he stated had shared their positive and encouraging experience with me whereas his medical school classmates and cardiologist colleagues in Australia are unable to share any as they are still waiting for the Australia vaccination rolling out plan.
