Sarawak General hospital (SGH) had its first healthy volunteer for the COVID19 vaccines trial at Clinical Research Centre this morning.
Local government and Housing, Dato’ Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian who was at the hospital to witness it said SGH is privilege and honour for CRC SGH to be one of 9 centres in Malaysia selected for the COVID19 vaccines research from China. The vaccine is named SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, Inactivated (Vero Cell) by IMBCAMS (Institue of Medical biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences).
Head of Infectious Disease unit, Dr. Chua Hock Hin said so far, the two volunteers are both young males. 375 volunteers have signed up for the trial. They must all be 18 years and above.
Dr. Chua said most of the volunteers are from Kuching and the nearby districts as it is more easy for them to make multiple trips to the SGH research centre for follow-ups.
He added that the volunteers have to go for six visits at the SGH and their well being will be monitored. The first time was whether they were eligible to be volunteers and then the second time, the jabs administered.
He said both have to go back in two weeks time to get the second jab.All the jabs administered for the volunteers are from China.
Dr. Chua added that the study is to ensure the effectiveness of the vaccine before going for public vaccination.
