Sebastian Ting at the Civic center to give away Kenyalang Gold card
A new face for Pujut constituency, Miri will contest in this coming State election. All seven SUPP incumbents will continue in their respective constitutency, said Piasau State Assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting yesterday while distributing Kenyalang Gold cards to recipents at the Civic Centre.
Ting who is also Assistant Minister for Tourism, Culture and Arts was speaking to reporters after the distribution said new face will be fielded in Pujut, the last election was a BN friendly candidate. In Miri, SUPP will fight the in three constituencies, Ting in Piasau while Senadin is Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
President of SUPP, Dato’ Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian has announced before that, a lot of new faces will be fielded in the party’s 20 traditional seats this coming State election.
Stating that unlike Sabah which was forced into an election, Sarawak has to hold one as the term will expire next June. Sarawak has not choice but to go for election between now and June next year, Ting added.
The last State election was in May 2016. Now, he said, it is a matter of holding it soon due to controlled covid-19 in Sarawak or to wait until early next year of which we will not be aware of the situation then.
There is an alternate voting trend, which is to go online but, Ting pointed out that it depends a lot on availability of facilities in rural areas. “The urban people will have no problem but in the rural areas, we have to see if they are ready or if the technology and facilities are in place. The best is that we look into ceramah where there must be control and SOP strictly followed. The PM had said we can shorten the campaigning to a week instead of two weeks previously,” he added.
In yesterday’s Kenyalang Gold card giveaway, Ting said a total of 902 cards were given away. The Piasau branch has staggered the timing so that there won’t be a huge crowd gathering at the same time.
Three booths were set up. One was for distributing cards, the other booths for new applicants of the cards and businessmen who wanted to be in the Kenyalang Gold card program.
