24th Anniversary of Padawan Municipal Council launching by Chief Minister
Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari launched the 24th anniversary of Majlis Perbandaran Padawan (MPP) recently.
Local government and Housing Minister, Dato’ Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the Launching of the Mural of the Ring Ladies (coil copper rings “ruyang” and “rasung” @ forearms and calves) from Kpg Semban (only 5 remaining) by fellow Sarawakian, Leonard Siaw for the occasion was a meaningful one for local Sarawakians.
He said MPP started as Kuching Rural District Council (KRDC) in 1956, became Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) in 1996 and his late father Tan Sri Sim Kheng Hong was Chairman of KRDC (1967-1970), before he was elected to Sarawak Legislative Assembly and appointed as Minister For Local Government.
Dr. Sim added Padawan is part of greater Kuching with more than 73,000 houses (most number of houses for the 26 local councils in Sarawak) with mix of urban, semi urban and rural regions but enormous agriculture and tourism potential.
It is timely for new iconic Municipal building to cater for the expansion of services and staffs, public facilities to meet expectations in conjunction with the 24th anniversary of MPP (65th anniversary of SRDC) and thanked the Chief Minister for the approval and financial allocation.
