Flood mitigation projects on
Batu Kawa flood mitigation projects has officially start as Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarawak (DID Sarawak) awarded the contract to Ceria Alliance Sdn Bhd to start the upgrading and improvement of the drainage system at Taman Desa Wira Lorong 20 area today.
Local government and Housing Minister, Dato Seri Dr. Sim Kui Hian said under the 12th Malaysia Plan, a total of RM120 million has been allocated for the Batu Kawa area flood mitigation projects.
He said Taman Desa Wira Lorong 20 projects, which started this month and cost RM1.67 million, are scheduled to be completed by June 30 next year under phase 1 allocation of RM 29 million.
For phase 1 upgrading projects, DID will fill high the lower area, upgrade all drains in the residential area to cement structures, widen the main drain and sub drain to 1.5 meter and 1.2 meter respectively and improve the drain connectivity from the residential area to Sg Maong main monsoon drain.
Beside the Lorong 20 projects, DID has also completed the open tender process for lorong 20A and 20B drain system upgrading projects as well as for lorong 20B1 tender evaluation process in this month. As for other lorong drainage design progress, lorong 20A1, 20B、17/17A/17A6 and 5/5I/5J/20C/20D has reached 70%, 65%, 30% and 10% respectively.
During the contract handover ceremony, Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, acknowledge the long term drainage system problem faced by Taman Desa Wira residents, and emphasize that flood mitigation projects is a massive projects and it needs proper and comprehensive planning to improve and upgrade the connectivity of the whole area by phases.
Sim urges Taman Desa Wira residents not to worry because no area will be left behind in this flood mitigation projects.
DID express it confident that after the whole flood mitigation projects have been completed, it will solve the drainage issue in that area permenantly.
