RM1, 000 fine ie fine for not wearing mask
SUPP Woman, Kho Teck Wan blasted MP Kuching, Dr. Kelvin Yii for trying to play populist for prosposing a tiered system to punish the people who did not wear mask in public.
She said according to Dr. Yii, a fine of RM1000 is too steep for most Malaysian.
“In my opinion too steep is exactly what a fine should be. The sole purpose of a fine is to deter, therefore the amount needs to be high enough to prevent offence. If everyone can afford the fine, more will disobey the order. The consequence of not wearing a mask can cause massive outbreak that disrupt normal daily operations, impact country’s economy, unemployment, and worst of all – death. Is a fine of RM1000 too steep for an offence that can cause all these?” asked Kho.
Although the ceiling price of mask has dropped to RM1 per piece, Kho said she understand that not everyone can afford mask for daily use, therefore she urged the government to lower the ceiling price of mask once again, especially since the schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian districts will be in full session starting next week. More parents will need to prepare mask for their children when school started.
As five months has passed since Malaysia declares MCO in March 2020, the people, added Kho Rakyat are well aware of SOPs and advised to practice precaution when going out.
“We know by now wearing a mask will reduce our chances of getting infected. A reusable mask made out of cloth is better than no mask at all.I also would like to urge kind Samaritan to offer a mask to elderly or any stranger who forgot to wear mask in public. So please do wear a mask when you go out. This is fighting covid-19 together” she said.
