SUPP CENTRAL YOUTH PRESS STATEMENT 19/06/2014

SUPP Central Youth Chairman Tan Kai is demanding the right honourable Violet Yong to disclose to the people, the total amount of Project Development Funds that she, under her capacity as an elected representative of Pending state constituency has successfully garnered and used on development projects that have benefited the people of that constituency, people who had put their trust on her.

“I demand that she lists out the total amount of Project Development Funds that she has fought for and successfully used on improving the livelihood of the people of Pending in an itemized breakdown. We should not forget that she is running her second term as the YB of Pending constituency.”

Tan Kai is deeply awed by Yong’s ignorance nevertheless, particularly on her lack of knowledge in differentiating the responsibilities of state council and an elected state representative despite his repeated explanations in the past. State assemblywoman Violet Yong was elected to represent the people of Pending area since she won the state election in 2006.

Local council such as MBKS relies on assessment collection to bear the council’s operating costs in order to make sure vital tasks continue to function normally, such as collection of rubbish, maintenance of traffic lights/street lights, dredging of sewage and drainages system, public health maintenance…etc.. because project development funding for the council has been rather insignificant in the past few years.

Whatever that is left from the assessment collection and grants from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, would then be used to cover the council’s maintenance costs whereas Project Development Funds to support new development projects, relies on what the MPs (Members of Parliament) and ADUNs (State Assemblymen) can “contribute”. So where are the MP and ADUN of this area?

Tan Kai is deeply disappointed by the right honourable Violet Yong’s ignorance and her lack of attention given to the people who elected her.

“Instead of caring for those who deserve it more, which in this case, people of Pending who put her into the State Legislative Assembly through the ballot tickets, DAP is now switching the party’s attention and resources to the people in the rural areas. So what about the deserving people of Pending? What do they get for voting for her, so that she can abandon them? Is this DAP’s way of serving the Rakyat?”

Furthermore, Tan Kai is puzzled by DAP leaders’ inconsistencies. “Violet Yong claimed that fixing roads is the responsibility of local councils and has nothing to do with Pakatan YBs. But whenever we read the newspapers, we always see news of DAP YBs pointing to roads or drains. This is especially true before and when they were first elected. According to them, they were serving the Rakyat. We even saw photo of DAP’s YB Wong King Wei fixing road at one of the faraway villages recently, way out of his own constituency.”
